Kireka Team A Continues Dominance in 2024 National Chess League

The 2024 National Chess League is heating up. Round 10 concluded with Kireka Team A maintaining its lead. While the defending champions of 2023 face the near-impossible task of losing all remaining rounds to be caught, the league is far from over with four rounds remaining.

One of the most exciting matchups saw the junior-heavy Mango Tech team push the seasoned champions to their limits, securing 2 points out of 6 boards. A standout performance came from National Junior Champion Matthew Mwase, who defeated Olympian FM Haruna Nsubuga after maneuvering him into a losing position. The game got tense after Haruna sacrificed a pawn in the opening but couldn’t outplay the junior champion who proved highly accurate.
