The 2024 National Chess League resumed on January 12th after a refreshing end-of-year break. Round 11 has concluded, and Kireka Team A continues to reign supreme at the top of the standings.
While they face a nearly insurmountable challenge to lose their lead with only three rounds left, the league is far from over! In a thrilling upset, Kireka Team A was held to a 3-3 draw by Mogadishu Chess Club, proving that even the best can be challenged.

One of the most exciting matchups saw the 2nd position stars Mulago Kings Chess Club led by FM Harold Wanyama taking down the Crestals Chess Club. In a thrilling encounter, the Mulago Kings Chess Club, boasting FM Harold Wanyama at the helm, ousted the Crestals Chess Club. A decisive victory for the chess master over the experienced Katula Frobisha, who made a few crucial errors, allowed Harold to seize control of the game. This essential win catapulted Mulago Kings into 2nd place, and they are now poised to secure silver unless Kireka A suffers a clean sweep of defeats in their remaining matches.

This year, the league has seen a remarkable expansion, growing from 40 teams to nearly 60, with a significant increase in junior teams. This influx of young talent has injected a new level of competitiveness into the event.
