The reigning champions, Kireka Team A, continued their relentless march towards another title, maintaining their firm grip on the top spot.

Kireka A enjoyed a relatively smooth round against the talented youngsters from KTLC. It’s truly inspiring to witness these young chess prodigies from the ghetto rising through the ranks and daring to challenge the established giants of the game. Their presence adds a vibrant energy to the league and speaks volumes about the growing passion for chess in our communities.

However, even the mighty can be challenged. Round 13/14 delivered a stunning upset on board 5, where Asaba Juliet masterfully outmaneuvered Master Nakabo Peninah in a captivating ladies’ chess encounter. This victory serves as a testament to the rising talent in women’s chess and underscores the unpredictable nature of the game.
With just one round remaining, the tension is palpable. While Kireka A appears to be in a commanding position, the battle for the remaining podium positions is far from over. Several teams are locked in a fierce struggle, each vying for a coveted spot among the top contenders. The Rapid and Blitz Sections also came to an end with the top teams still holding the key positions.


Today’s matches showcased some truly thrilling encounters. The clash between Soroti Chess Club and Mango Tech on board 3 was a masterclass in strategic chess, with both teams displaying exceptional skill and tactical prowess. The audience was captivated by the intricate maneuvers and the nail-biting tension that permeated the air.

Another captivating battle unfolded on board 7, where Kireka Salty faced off against Western Express, a formidable team from Kenya. The seasoned veteran from Western Express demonstrated why he holds the Kenyan champion title, taking Kizza Farouq into a tactical “dark forest” on board one. The game was a display of intricate planning and calculated aggression, leaving spectators breathless. This cross-border rivalry added an extra layer of excitement to the already charged atmosphere.
