The 4th edition of the Queens of Chess Rapid Chess Tournament was a resounding success, drawing 70 participants ranging in age from 6 to 30+. The event, held at Goria Gardens in Namugongo, featured players competing together but awarded in various categories: U8, U10, U12, U14, U16, U18, U20, and the open category.



Milly Takali emerged as the champion with an impressive score of 7.5/8 points. Other standout players included Ampaire Shakira and Hannah Zion Mawejje, who secured second and third place, respectively. The tournament also recognized the top performers in each age category, highlighting the depth of talent among the younger participants.



This event, held annually on March 8th to coincide with International Women’s Day, celebrates women in chess and aims to promote gender balance in the sport. With support from sponsors such as Kireka Chess Club, Gambits Chess Club, Savant Chess Academy, European Travel, Mango Tech, and the Uganda Chess Federation, the tournament continues to be a significant platform for female chess players in the region.

Her performance against Suhana, a young and talented player, showcased her ability to execute strong moves with master-like precision, even under the pressure of a rapid time control.
