THE UGANDA CHESS LEAGUE CHAMPIONS 2025 – UNVEILED

Kireka A’s Reign Continues: Dominating the League After Decisive Wins– ROUNDS 8 AND 9

The Kireka A Chess Club has once again asserted its dominance, solidifying its claim as the team to beat following a pair of intense victories in rounds 8 and 9. The club, which has been the powerhouse of the league for the past five years, delivered a crucial blow to the season’s early frontrunners, CNA Chess Club, and followed it up with a hard-fought win against Kireka Salty.

The Decisive Battle: Kireka A vs. CNA

Round 8 saw the clash of the titans, with Kireka A facing off against the newly formed CNA Chess Club. CNA had made a sensational debut this season, holding the coveted top position on the leaderboard for the first seven rounds of the twelve-round league. The anticipation for this match was palpable, mirroring the “hot season” both on the board and in the weather outside.

In a highly strategic and heated battle, Kireka A took down the table leaders with a commanding score of 4-2. The decisive match showcased the league’s top talent, but CNA struggled to convert their prowess into wins against the seasoned champions.

The only victory for CNA came on Board 4, where FM Okas Walter of CNA defeated CM Egesa Emmanuel of Kireka A in what was described as a true ‘clash of titans.’ Despite this singular triumph, Kireka A’s overall performance was too strong, allowing them to seize the crucial match points and take the lead.

Extending the Lead: Kireka A vs. Kireka Salty

The excitement didn’t end there. Later that rainy evening, Kireka A had to defend its new position against Kireka Salty in Round 9. In another closely contested match, Kireka A showed their resolve, scoring a 3.5 – 2.5 victory. This win marks the continuance of their dominance and makes it incredibly challenging for any club to catch them in the final stretch.

The Home Stretch

With only three rounds to go in the league, Kireka A’s back-to-back victories have created significant breathing room at the top. While it is “far from over” and the “race still rages,” many are beginning to feel that the league champions are all but known. Having overcome their most formidable challenge in CNA and secured points against Kireka Salty, it seems hard for Kireka A to drop the button now.

The question remains: Can any club rally in the final three rounds to truly challenge Kireka A’s reign, or will the veterans secure their sixth consecutive title?
