Gambit Chess Invitational – Memorable Showdown 2025

The Gambit Chess Club’s Invitational Tournament: WHO DARES WINS.  

The Gambit Chess Club recently demonstrated its commitment to the game with an invitational and selection event, bringing together 14 talented players. This tournament served as an opportunity for the team to determine its board orders and confirm its members. Notably, a few wild cards were selected, including Mande Allan, Ajiri Benjamin, and Mukuye Ivan.

Tournament organizer Munanira Isaac encouraged participants to showcase their skills, and the competition did not disappoint. Favorites Mande Allan, Shakuru, and Wanderema were among those vying for top honors. However, it was 17-year-old Kur who stole the show, taking down the field with a round to spare and finishing with an impressive 6.5/8.

Several games stood out, including Kur’s match against Shakuru, where Shakuru blundered a delicate endgame, ultimately giving away the tournament.

Another battle ensued among the Gambit team members where the chess clock decided the game as a final blunder followed from Jimmy.

Another notable performance came from Jully, the only female participant from Kenya, who held her own against a formidable field of men. Her determination and skill earned her recognition, and she successfully took down several notable opponents.

The closing ceremony was brief, with the winners receiving their prizes. Events like this may be small, but they create lasting memories and demonstrate the resilience and commitment of clubs like the Gambit Chess Club, which is dedicated to changing lives through chess.
